About Our Wines

About Armstead Estate

Armstead Estate is situated within the 120 year old Wild Duck Farm on the shores of beautiful Lake Eppalock in the Heathcote Region.  The cellar door is housed within the historic foreman’s cottage, on the  grounds of the property.
The vines were first planted by the  Proprietor Peter Armstead in 2001 as the fulfillment of a dream to  create a winery producing quality red and white wine varieties.
This first planting is now producing excellent fruit and a full bodied Shiraz wine which has won a bronze medal at the Federation Square wine show in 2008.
Peter is also fastidious in his selection of Marsanne grapes from local growers which are used to produce his Lakeside Marsanne, another bronze medal winner at Federation Square in 2008.

About our wines

Roxy’s Paddock 2006 Shiraz.
Roxy is a fearless young girl with a heightened sense of adventure and  determination. The paddock which has now been named in her honour, and  where she performed her death- defying feats of valour, has produced vines laden with their heavenly gifts for us to enjoy.
This bold, full bodied wine demands sampling to discover the rich blackberry aromas and delicious black cherry flavours. There is a hint of licorice  complexity in the finish and this wine is further enhanced by subtle oak flavours from being matured for 12 months in French and American hogsheads. The fruit was hand picked from low yielding Shiraz vines and  produced using traditional methods of basket pressing and hand plunged caps. This wine can be enjoyed now or cellared to be enjoyed over the next 8 years.

2007 Lakeside Marsanne.
Surprise yourself. Tropical aromas of pineapple and passionfruit are a highlight on the nose of this refreshing, fulfilling Marsanne. The subtle use of  oak adds a dimension to the palate which enhances the lingering apricot  finish. This wine is delightful to try now and it will develop classic Marsanne characters with age. A great white wine for the cellar for the  next 3 - 4 years.
